How it works

From terms to a figure you can defend

The point of a calculator is not the answer. It is being able to show where the answer came from when somebody pushes back on it.

  1. Step 01

    Enter the terms

Principal, rate, term and the rest of what defines the paper go in once, in the form the note is actually written in.

  2. Step 02

    Read the schedule

The amortization schedule shows how the loan pays down period by period, not only where it lands at the end.

  3. Step 03

    Work the payoff

A payoff figure comes off the same inputs as the schedule, so the terms do not have to be re-entered somewhere else to get it.

  4. Step 04

    Take it with you

The same calculators are reachable in a browser and as an iOS app, so the work does not have to wait until you are back at a desk.

The shape of it

How the schedule and the payoff relate

The terms are entered once. The amortization schedule and the payoff figure are both worked from those same inputs, rather than in two separate tools each asking for the terms again.

What it does

Capabilities, and why each one earns its place.

  • 01

    Loan and note calculators

The core figures a lender or note buyer reaches for, without opening a spreadsheet.

Why it matters A spreadsheet built under time pressure is where quiet arithmetic mistakes go to live.

  • 02

    Amortization schedules

See how a loan actually pays down over its term, period by period.

Why it matters The shape of the paydown is often what decides a deal, and a single summary figure hides it.

  • 03

    Payoff math

Work a payoff figure from the same inputs as the schedule so the two agree.

Why it matters Two tools with two answers means someone has to decide which one to trust, usually under pressure.

  • 04

    Web and iOS

Calculators in the browser, plus an iOS app for running numbers away from a desk.

Why it matters The moment a figure is needed is rarely the moment you are sitting in front of a computer.

Where it fits

The jobs this was built to carry.

  1. 01

Price a note in front of the seller

Pricing paper and needing the yield and payoff math to hold up while the person who wrote it is watching.

  2. 02

    Check the schedule before committing

Reading an amortization schedule before the call rather than after the commitment has already been made.

  3. 03

Run a figure without a desk

Working a quick number from a phone while standing in a property, rather than waiting to get back to a desk.

What happens next

Available on the web and on iOS.

Open the web calculator in a browser, or download the iOS app from the App Store. Both are live today.
